Mindquarry (an Open Source Collaborative Software Supplier ) have developed a visual resource: Periodic Table of Collaboration covering 60+ elements over 4 categories: People (Roles), Productivity Software, Collaborative Software and Methods.

The explanations are not in depth but nevertheless still useful.
Its not claiming to be comprehensive topicwise but it’s a neat idea and is a good way to lead someone new into the broad and constantly growing field of Collaboration.

When not to collaborate
A team of one is sometimes best. It might sound like heresy but sometimes the most effective way to produce something is not through collaboration. Collaboration is best for tasks which cannot be fully achieved by a single person – if a job can be completed best by one person then to collaborate to do it will only make it worse.

Cool! I’ve bookmarked this post. I remembered in my earlier post in my own blog that just recently some Universities required students taking computer-related courses to have Chemistry units. I was able to gather some reasons why and now your post is one fun way to collaborate Chemistry and Computer courses.
