Good leaders clarify their teams values
At a lunch for business leaders a couple of years back Jack Welch, once voted the most respected business leader of all time, was asked about the relative importance of right values versus making the numbers.

This is what he said:
“There are 4 types of manager:Type 1 has the values and delivers the numbers – that’s easy.
Type 2 has neither the values nor the numbers – that’s easy too!
Type 3 has values but is not delivering the numbers – you give them a second chance.
Type 4 creates all the problems – producing the numbers but with no regard for the principles of the company. People want them around because they are making the numbers.
However you will change your company (for the better) forever if you fire a high-performing person who is doing it unfairly and you explain why”

The Cult of the Amateur
Read this book if your future is anyway connected to Web2.0. Andrew Keen’s central thesis is that if all content (e.g. music, video, news, books, encyclopaedias) is produced by “amateurs” and no-one will pay for “professional” versions then its curtains for quality or independent publishing.
