Do mobile workers prefer smartphones to PDAs
CIO Briefing (August 17) reports that road warriors prefer smartphones over laptops and PDAs, but is this really true or just a bit of spin? Reach your own conclusions!

If you read the actual article MOBILE WORKERS PUSH FOR SMARTPHONES you might feel the conclusions have been spun somewhat by Smartphone enthusiasts:
Smartphones: 64% say smart phones essential and 32% say helpful
Laptops: 63% say essential and 27% say helpful
PDAs: 34% say essential and 55% say helpful
The difference between Smartphones and PDAs is well within the limits of error - i.e. no meaningful difference so more accurate conclusions from this study might be:
Smartphones and Laptops are consided essential by about twice as many people as PDAs
Mind you an unscrupulous PDA marketer might try saying this study shows:
PDAs are consided helpful by about twice as many people as Smartphones and Laptops
But what do you think?

Mobile business applications framework
In a just published book Work Goes Mobile by Michael Lattanzi, Antti Korhonen and Vishy Gopalakrishnan, authors of Nokia’s mobility master plan, propose a very useful application profiling scheme to establish the degree to which a business could exploit mobile technologies in their broadest sense. This approach would also be very useful for establishing the support requirements for virtually networked teams.
