Biologically inspired design conference
The Center for Biologically-Inspired Design at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta have announced a conference in Biologically Inspired Design in Science and Engineering on May 10-12.

Images above are of Geckos Feet: Geckos, nature’s supreme climbers, can race up a polished glass window at a meter per second. They can even do it upside down. Moreover, they can support their entire body weight from a wall with only a single toe.
The conference in Biologically Inspired Design in Science and Engineering takes place in May 2006 and aims to to bring together scientists and practitioners of all disciplines who are committed to “search the design space represented in the natural world in order to provide innovative solutions”.
This new discipline is known as biomimicry or biomimetrics.
I have previously defined bioteams as "biomimicry in the field of team and organisational design".
I have also mentioned an important Biomimicry database which has been launched to support the discipline.

Organisational teams: thin slice for responsiveness
Humans and animals do not need complete information to act; they can operate on various clues provided there is a sufficient context. Organizational teams can also use this thin slicing technique in conjunction with short messaging to enhance their performance. Malcolm Gladwell’s introspective book Blink digs deep into the abyss of human cognition to illustrate the human ability to think at a subconscious level. The idea of thin slicing is used where one is introduced to only a few snippets of information which lead to a series of conclusions based on moments of rapid cognition – an ability claimed to be intrinsically dormant in most humans.
