Mike Gunderloy, in an article entitled, Tips for virtual teams, for Application Development Trends magazine shares five good tips for working in distributed software development teams.

  1. Try and have at least one team member who meets the customer regularly
  2. Use a shared knowledge repository
  3. Exploit instant messaging
  4. Check in with other team members daily
  5. Use e-mail as a last resort

These tips make pretty good sense for any virtually distributed team not just software development teams!
