Dysfunctional team behaviour-new conditions discovered

Insight: phobia, mania, and delusion... the shrinks have a word for it

Adrian Furnham writing in the UK Daily Telegraph Insight column, July 7 has shared some slightly tongue-in-cheek insights on the new crop of psychiatric conditions which are afflicting today's teams and organisations. My three favourites from Aidrian's(extensive) list are:

  • Email paralysis: A new condition caused by being so frequently flooded by emails that one has no time to formulate a considered response

  • Mild Meeting Madness: A very common complaint which is the belief that a) meetings work b) achieve anything c) they improve decision making

  • Teamitus: The insistence that everyone does and should work in teams. This involves commissioning sadistic ex-corporals to teach the benefits of interdependent teams on cold, wet Welsh hillsides

Anyone even remotely following my blog on bioteaming, basing our teams on mother natures teaming principles, will know exactly what to do if they find their team is infected by any of these conditions.

Management Issues have also picked out their top three conditions from an HR perspective

This could become a popular pastime - what are your three favourites?
